1. How do we ask users for consent to the use of cookies? How can the user refuse to save and use cookies?
The Cookiebot we use automatically asks every website visitor for active consent to cookies. Necessary cookies are always active, the website visitor can either accept or reject others.
The website visitor can refuse the storage and use of cookies by clicking either the "Only necessary" or "Allow selection" button.
2. How do we verify that website visitors have given consent to the use of cookies?
After rejecting/accepting cookies, a unique, random, anonymous and encrypted approval code is created for the website visitor, e.g. "xyPi/aC3jWy9MmswGGZ7smddKKuODVk4t/qdKHL4kcP2Y+/iKAfCjw==". The date and time of acceptance of cookies is shown below the ID. The website visitor can either change his acceptance or cancel his acceptance of non-essential cookies whenever he wants at: uuva.fi/evasteet. After the update, a new, unique, random, anonymous and encrypted approval code is created for him.
From Cookiebot's admin panel, we are able to verify the website visitor's consent to the use of cookies against the approval ID and date he gave us.
We can download the consent log on a daily basis and filter the approval ID and date of a specific website visitor from the list. In this way, we are also able to verify the consent to the use of cookies by the consent token we created, "xyPi/aC3jWy9MmswGGZ7smddKKuODVk4t/qdKHL4kcP2Y+/iKAfCjw==".
With this operating model, we ensure that the information of the website visitor remains completely anonymous until the disclosure of his identity is necessary either by himself or by the authorities. A unique, random, anonymous and encrypted consent token can be used to ensure that existing consent cannot be modified – either by the website visitor themselves or by malicious third parties – without a trace. Cookiebot ensures this by always creating a new approval token when the website visitor modifies his old "consent state".
3. How do the services on our website work if the user does not accept cookies?
This does not affect the uuva.fi website, as necessary cookies must be accepted.
4. How do the services on our website work if the user has technically blocked the use of cookies?
Even if the website visitor technically blocks cookies, essential cookies are still operational.
If the website visitor tries to change his consent by pressing the "Change your consent" button, the browser gives a warning that the technical blocking of cookies should be removed if he wants to change his consent status.
5. How do we manage user consents? How do we store user consents, and how long do we store consents?
Cookiebot automatically saves the website visitor's consent in the consent log, which can only be seen by one person from our company.
Cookiebot saves the consent log from the website visitor:
- his anonymized IP address (the last three digits have been replaced by the number '0'), e.g.
199.238.0.0
- date and time of consent
- browser data, e.g.
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/89.0.4389.82 Safari/537.36
- URL address where consent has been given, e.g. https://uuva.fi
- an anonymous, unique, random and encrypted approval token
- "consent state", which acts as a certificate of consent.
If necessary, we can demonstrate the consent of website visitors to the authorities. Cookiebot's server is located in Ireland and operates under EU legislation.
Cookiebot stores a "CookieConsent" cookie in the browser of the website visitor, which carries only an anonymous, unique, random and encrypted approval token and consent status. This allows our website to automatically respect the previously defined consent status of each website visitor. The same information is saved via an encrypted connection to the consent log located on Cookiebot's server.
How long are consents kept?
The "CookieConsent" cookie is automatically stored in the browser for 12 months, when the website visitor is asked for it again, unless:
- website visitor clear/delete cookies from their browser
- unless we change our cookie policies, or add/remove cookies. In these cases, we force the website visitor to update their consent status to match our current cookie policy. In this case, the website visitor's consent status reverts to only necessary cookies, before he has accepted/rejected cookies.
